MSI Wind Netbooks: A Review

by Guest Post on March 23, 2010 · 0 comments

It sounds impossible, but the MSI Wind netbook is a good portable computer system not just for a netbook, but for any type of laptop. It’s got a good battery life – over 5 hours easily – a full-sized keyboard, and a screen that is ten inches, which is about the biggest you will find on netbooks. The netbook in general, while still able to fit into a large purse, is bigger than most other netbooks, and provides a computing experience much closer to a traditional PC’s.

This MSI netbook is also remarkably light, weighing less than three pounds, and it’s got a modern Atom processor that MSI has made very easy to overclock to reach even higher levels of performance.

It’s also a practical laptop – the case is smudge-resistant, and has soft, rounded corners to avoid snags in a backpack or on the go. All of the major important features of laptops are still available on the MSI Wind, including three USB ports, microphone, jack for headphones, ethernet slot, and an included wireless access card. There’s also a memory card reader, which many full-featured laptops don’t have, and a VGA port.

The only major area for complaint on this MSI netbook model is the trackpad, which is tiny, forcing you to drag your mouse across the pad several times to make it across the screen, and there is only one mouse click button. In general, the trackpad isn’t as user-responsive as most netbook users would prefer, but there are very few netbooks that offer good trackpad options – most major netbook brands seem to struggle with how to effectively use the limited space.

In general, the MSI Wind’s good computing power, sturdy, pragmatic design, and, almost full-sized scale make it an excellent laptop substitute for users looking for even greater flexibility and portability than a larger laptop can provide.
