Buying refurbished laptop computers
Posted in General | 0 Comments »Where is a better place to get a refurbished laptop? Online, or in stores? Actually, this answer is a little bit more complicated than some people would imagine. While finding refurbished laptop computers online is often easier than finding them in the stores, the cost savings isn’t always clear cut. While most of the time you can find a cheaper laptop online than you can in the stores, this isn’t always the case.
Why is that? It all comes down to economies of scale. Larger stores such as Wal-Mart can offer huge savings to customers due to the fact that their business is just so big. They have the infrastructure in place to store, market, and sell products that their costs go down for each and every product they sell. Cheap refurbished laptops follow this rule just the same; the more laptops the store has on hand and the bigger the company as a whole, the cheaper the system can be sold.
However, this is true in theory. Is it always the case in the real world? No, certainly not. Often, customers can visit a number of online laptop retailers and find a large number of laptops for prices that they wouldn’t have imagined existed. For example, retailers like Tiger Direct may sell laptops with a 20-30% discount over stores like Best Buy, even though Best Buy is the larger store with a much bigger “economy of scale.”
At some point, being smaller and more centralized is important for selling products more cheaply. Online refurbished laptop retailers can sell cheaper computers because they’re smaller and don’t need a large infrastructure. All these online retailers often need is one building. They don’t need a large corporate headquarters, multiple warehouses, hundreds of stores, etc. They keep their costs down, and in result you get a great refurbished laptop for cheap.
