A network switch is a piece of hardware that enables the sharing of computers and networks on the same data connection. Network switch is also referred to as Network Bridge because it acts as an intermediate station that connects sub networks and communication links that allow data transmission in the end stations.

Network switches vary as per their ports and are available in 8-ports, 12-ports and 24-ports.

8 port switch: The 8-port switch is appropriate for dial-up Internet users. The 8-port switch forms the core part in sharing files, e-mail, multiplayer games and so on. One computer connects to the network switch and modem, and forms an Internet access point for all the computers connected on the network. You can share the dial up Internet access with seven additional computers using the Internet connection software. It is also possible to expand the network by adding more switches through the uplink port.
