Pink Laptop Duet
Posted in Mini Laptop Models | 1 Comment »Netbook is the new buzzword on the small laptop market. Everyone wants one and every manufacturer wants to have a piece of this cake, who wouldn’t. Since Asus put it’s 2 cent on the table with Asus EEE 701 the subnotebook market went upside down, making these laptops available for everyone not just the rich businessman. If someone wanted to buy a laptop with a sub-13” screen they had to pay more than a grand for one and Asus put and end to that.
They spotted the possibility and swapped common laptop parts with low consumption, low speed components assuming that customers would like a simple, cheap way to reach the net. They were right and their creation started the snowball, now every brand that has been around making notebook makes netbooks as well. There is a new menu just for these on every website, every shop has them on the shelf but there has been one issue nobody seemed to notice until now.
These mini laptops were more on the practicality side of the scale, and nobody seemed to cater for users with a taste for design. Those days are over, please welcome the era of pink netbooks.
Samsung N130
Our first contestant is more focused on the exterior than intrinsic value. It follows the usual layout for netbooks, 10” screen goes along with 160gb hard disk, 1 gigabyte of memory to have smooth transition between applications and a 1.6 ghz N270 Intel Atom CPU for prolonged battery life and enough power to run everyday tasks involved in keeping in touch with the world. Speaking of which, this netbook has an ethernet connection just like every other notebook does but also features 802.11n draft, the most recent and quickest wireless network standard up to date and of course all that in pink. The price may vary and a few online shops are out of stock but picking one up for $349 doesn’t seem impossible.
Dell Inspiron Mini 10
Dell has scored some succes with its Inspiron Mini 10, an average looking but well built netbook in its own kind. The z520 processor clocked at 1.3ghz is somewhat outdated as is the 3 hour battery, but they will get the job done and that counts. For $400 this mini is a bit overprices for my taste but the usual Dell product quality makes up for part of it.
