The television data is obtained through a propriety network or through an existing cellular network. This feature is provided mainly by numerous 3G phones and was first started in South Korea in 2005.
The reach of television in mobile phones is only restricted to the user interface that supports TV on mobile phones and phones with LCD display.
Challenges for TV on Mobile Phone
Mobile TV phones are facing challenges on the technical as well as diplomatic levels. Some of them include:
The Challenges faced by Device Manufacturer: These challenges mainly include power consumption, user interface design, memory issues and processing power challenges. The power consumption challenges revolve around the usage of battery. The current memory configurations are not sufficient to view TV on mobile phone for longer durations.
The technological challenges are not much and are almost negligible, but the core issue lies in the fact that it will have to bear the burden of payments that will go into using, owning and controlling the mobile TV network. The US Federal Communications Commission prefers the use of proprietary systems to the network neutrality principles. This has given rise to lock-in of mobile phones from vendors by manufacturers and mobile phone companies.
Apart from these, the content providers are also facing challenges with respects to providing TV mobile phones. These mainly include making short episodes for mobile phones, known as mobisodes, of a duration of 3-5 minutes by improvising the content and making it suitable for mobile TV.

Major players in providing mobile phones with TV are the Chinese. The majority of TV mobile phones from China are based in the high-end and midrange sectors. The other stylish TV mobile phone introduced by LG is known as the LG VX9400. It stylish, sleek and contains all sophisticated features.
To conclude, as technology has the nature of evolving itself, the dream of phone TV mobile in everybody’s hands doesn’t seem distant and will soon turn into a reality. However, currently there are a number of issues, which need proper attention so that the acting network invests and creates full service which the consumer can finally pay for. However, to get this done, there is a need to give incentives for all the actors who play an important role in the manufacturing of this highly sophisticated technology known as the Digital TV mobile phone.
