HP Compaq Tablet PC TC1100
Posted in Tablet PC | 7 Comments »Tablet PCs in general are small flat screen computers which can take input via a pen or finger touch. These devices have been in the market for over a decade now. However, with the explosion of multimedia devices with touchscreen technology, Tablet PC and touch screen laptop have started gaining more popularity.
Traditionally, Tablet PCs have been used more like mini laptops with the touch screen facility and have never tried to replace regular computers. The situation might change in future due to technological advances.
One of the early touchscreen tablet model is the TC1100 from HP Compaq. Its based on the idea that computers can also be used without traditional input methods like keyboard or mouse. So you can input data using a stylus (a kind of pen used to write on touch screens) and draw graphs, figures etc as you might do using paper and pen. Moreover, lot of these devices like HP Tablet PC and Lenovo Tablet PC have handwriting recognition softwares, enabling you to write normally and the software converts your hand written characters to typed letters. This technology does make the task of working on computers quite ubiquitous.
The Compaq TC1100 is very compact and can be carried easily, making it useful for working on the move. The system however runs on 1.0 GHz Pentium M processor from Intel and thus is not for running computationally complex applications like computer games. It comes equipped with a graphics processor from Nvidia (GeForce Go 420) and 32MB of graphics memory. The 512 MB RAM is on the lower side though.
Tablet PC TC1100 has a hard drive of only 40GB and like mini notebooks does not have a CD/DVD player. Separate CD/DVD player need to be bought if required. The player can be easily connected to the device through the available ports.
HP TC1100 has a 10.4 tft display which can be used for input using the TC1100 pen or as a mini laptop when attached with the keyboard. It also has standard LAN port and integrated WiFi card for seamless wireless connectivity.
The important features of HP Tablet PC TC1100 include a detachable keyboard and warm battery change, making it versatile for working on the move. The TC1100 battery can be easily removed by bringing the device in stand-by and replacing it with a charged battery. Similarly, the device can be switched from the tablet mode to the notebook mode with the flip of the switch. This removes the inconvenience of shutting down while performing the above functions.
This device is one of the earlier Tablet PCs which became popular. With the great improvement in the processing and touch screen technology, touchscreen Tablet PCs are becoming much better and versatile. Some of the other Tablet PC models available from HP are TC1000, TC4200, TC4400 etc.
