Finding Laptop Memory

If you’ve got a laptop and are thinking of improving its performance then laptop memory upgrade is probably one of the easiest things to do, not to mention one of the most cost effective. It’s also easy to do, it’s something that you can do yourself. When replacing your memory, there are three things you need to look for, namely, the type of memory, the speed of memory and the pin arrangement.

Modern laptop memory comes in a type called DDR (double data rate) Memory. It’s typically referred to as DDR laptop memory, DDR2 laptop memory, DDR3 laptop memory etc. The succeeding number in the nomenclature defines the relative speed of the memory. The higher the number, the faster the memory is. So DDR2 memory would be faster than the DDR memory. If you do put faster memory in your laptop, you’ll have to remove the old memory because you can’t mix the different DDR type memory configurations.

The type of memory also determines the speed. The clock rate of DDR is about 100Mhz. Each successive number increases the clock rate by about 33Mhz. So DDR2 can be clocked at 133Mhz, DDR3 can be clocked at 166Mhz etc. Moreover, you don’t have to worry too much about the speed. If you get the right DDR type then the speed will also be what you need – just remember you can’t mix the DDR types. Presently, 1gb laptop memory is atlest required for decent laptop performance

The last thing you need to worry about is pin type. Each type of memory for laptop has a set of pins that fit into a socket in your laptop. Different types of memory will have a different number of pins, or little notches that fit a tap on your memory socket. You don’t need to worry even if you put the wrong type of memory in your computer as it won’t break anything, however the computer might just not boot up. In this case, you need to take out the memory and put your old memory back in. Hopefully everything would be fine. Thankfully, the wrong type of memory won’t fit the pin configuration anyway, making it almost impossible to put it wrong memory in your laptop.

Finally, how do you find which laptop computer memory is suitable for your device? Look at the website of your laptop’s maker and you should find the type of memory you need. They’ll probably tell you that you need to buy their memory, but that’s not true. Any memory that fits the specification will work. So if you’ve got some cheap pink laptop, you don’t need to get the most expensive memory. You can get the cheapest available memory, provided it meets the specification of your laptop. Many memory vendors will have a “laptop memory finder” to help you determine what you need.

This is such a great resource that you are providing and you give it away for free. I love seeing websites that understand the value of providing a quality resource for free. It is the old what goes around comes around routine. Did you acquired lots of links and I see lots of trackbacks?
