Mini Notebook for office tasks

With the increasingly connected world, working on the move is becoming a necessity. As we become more and more digitally connected, social networks, emails, official work etc are taking increasing amount of our daily time. Everyone wants to squeeze as much work as possible within his or her schedules. Mini Notebook is one device which can free some of your time by letting you work while on a plane or train, thereby keeping you free when you reach home.

In one of my previous posts (on Mini Notebook Laptop), I described some applications which can be used on mini notebooks for personal work. Now let me give you an overview of some available Softwares which can be used for official work on these devices. The Softwares required for office tasks are commonly called office suites and provide a variety of applications like email clients, spreadsheets, presentations etc. needed for running a modern business.

Two of the most used office suites for mini notebooks are Microsoft Office 2007 and Open Office. The office suite from Microsoft supposedly take less amount of RAM for running on these resource crunched computers than OpenOffice. However, MS Office 2007 does rip you off your money whereas OpenOffice can be downloaded for free. OpenOffice provides a very good suite for official work on a mini notebook PC and does just everything that MS Office does.

Another new entrant in this category of software is Corel Home Office, specifically designed by Coral Corporation for small computers. It address the needs of consumers and home-based businesses and has low memory requirements & small footprint. Like other available office suites, Corel Home Office includes a word processor, a spreadsheet application and an application for making business presentations. More importantly, Corel Home office has the ability to create PDFs in all three applications. It does provide file support for MS Office suite.

All the office suites described above provide rich environment for completing office tasks on small resource crunched computers like mini notebook laptops. However, you may just require a text editor for most of your work. Then AbiWord and Jarte might exactly be the kind of software you require. AbiWord is a text editor, which allows you to add a no-US English dictionary and does the spell check as you type. Similarly, Jarte is another niche word processor used by many mini laptop notebook users. It is a super-fast version of MS Wordpad. These word processors provide fast word processing capabilities with low memory footprints.

HP mini notebook, Acer mini notebook, Samsung mini notebook, Toshiba mini notebook etc. are some of the best mini notebooks available in the market.
