Nokia’s First Windows Phone 7 Model Codenamed “Sea Ray”
Posted in Mobile Devices | 0 Comments »The Microsoft and Nokia partnership which was announced earlier this year is now showing signs of progress as Nokia’s first ever Windows Phone 7 model which is codenamed “Sea Ray” was recently revealed. Nokia CEO Stephen Elop showed of the device to Nokia employees and photos of the device were then leaked to a popular tech blog.
The Sea Ray uses the same chassis as the recently released Nokia N9 model. Nothing else is known about this mobile device but if it is similar to the N9 then we can speculate that its specifications will more or less be the same. The Nokia N9 is the company’s first and last MeeGo device. It comes with a 3.9 inch AMOLED Gorilla Glass display that has a resolution of 480×854 pixels. It uses a 1 GHz Cortex A8 processor and 1 GB of RAM. There’s also an 8 megapixel autofocus camera to take care of your photo and video needs.
Those Nokia employees who have seen the Sea Ray were able to take snapshots of the device before they were told to off their cameras.
It makes perfect sense for Nokia to use the N9 chassis for their first Windows Phone 7 model. With the production lines already in place the company won’t have a difficult time in releasing a WP7 model this year.
Nokia was once the world leader in mobile phone sales, having a large share of the market. The company is losing its market share recently due to the entry of smartphones such as the iPhone and Android devices. One factor that led to the decline of Nokia is its reliance in the Symbian platform which does not seem to work well on touch based devices.
To reclaim its lost market share the company partnered itself with Microsoft so that it can use the Windows Phone 7 platform. In a way, both companies need each other since Microsoft isn’t doing well in the smartphone market due to its lack of models. Nokia on the other hand needs to penetrate the US market which is one of the biggest markets today for smartphone devices.
