Mini Laptop Computer: Lenovo IdeaPad S12

Lenovo IdeaPad S12 is one of the latest laptops from Lenovo in the mini laptop computers series. It includes a wide range of features and provides a good configuration. Users can easily stores huge quantity of files including multimedia files in its 160 GB hard disk. Users are therefore able to play and browse a lot of offline content while on the move with this mini laptop computer. Since this model typically has the price tag below $500, it is also appropriate for budget buyers. Moreover, a widescreen hyper threading technology and portable hard drive makes it one of the best laptop computers in the market. The portable hard drive,which is also used in Lenovo tablet PC series, makes the laptop much more versatile and easy to transport.

Design and Features: The Lenovo S12 can be ordered with two different processor configurations. One configuration uses the Nano Ultra Low Voltage (ULV) processor and the other uses the traditional Intel Atom N270 1.6 GHz processor. The latter configuration has a L2 cache memory of 512KB and a bus speed of 533MHz.  The laptop screen is LED backlit, which creates a great user experience.

This laptop computer would make a very good gift to college going kids. It provides enough processing power to do the homework, run word processing applications and surf the internet. Moreover, this cheap laptop might also give decent performance with video playback as it includes the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator card. Of course, we cannot expect a very high quality video playback as found in any latest laptop.

Battery management is one key area where this mini laptop provides excellent results. This device contains a 6 cell battery, which gives battery backup of more than 4 hours with computationally expensive applications like video playbacks. The battery life is further increased with relaxed usage like office use, Web browsing, blogging, chatting etc. This laptop turns out to be very good for business travelers too as less frequent charging is required. Moreover, it provides enough processing power to use with normal office work like making presentations, email and document reading / writing etc. The 3.5 pound weight makes it easy to take along anywhere on a trip.

The Good: Lenovo S 12 got a splendid keyboard and a bright screen. Another advantage is the Express card slot, which extends the internet connection to any future wireless technology. Last but not the least, it has also got a great look and feel.

The Bad: Sometimes it is difficult to type with closely spaced keyboard. Since it generates a lot of heat, a cushion might be required when keeping it on your lap.
